Working together  for our community.

LaCrosse, WA (population 310) is an example of what a town, even a very small one, can do with broad community support and dedicated volunteers. When the grocery, bank, and café closed and the old hardware store burned prospects for its future looked grim. A feisty team of volunteers, LaCrosse Community Pride (LCP), rebuilt the historic brick store, improved the bank and café, added a library, community gathering place, business offices and a grocery in along with welcoming new businesses.

Along our Main Street are houses, a gas station, and bunkhouses built during the Great Depression by local farmers of basalt rocks from the Ice Age Floods that once incised rugged canyons across the land. After sitting empty for decades, LCP is now converting the gas station into a Heritage Center/Ice Age Museum, the bunkhouses into overnight lodging for visitors. Nearby, the National Geologic Trail, land traversed by NASA astronauts preparing to someday visit the ancient flood channels of Mars, trails left by Indians, gold miners and troops, and caves where some of the oldest human remains in the hemisphere have been found—a remarkable, unspoiled land.

Our motto—‘the little town that could and did’ has become a community slogan.
